HLS Places 2nd in Louisville Math Competition, Advances to State in March

Congratulations to the HLS Math Team for their second-place finish at the Louisville MATHCOUNTS competition! Their outstanding performance has earned them a spot at the state competition on March 8.

MATHCOUNTS team rankings are determined by the average of the top four individual scores, plus double the team-round score. Cahil Agarwal, Luke Alsauskas, Hudson Bramsen, and Levi Kindig combined their efforts to surpass every team in Louisville except Meyzeek—an impressive achievement!

“Our students worked very hard to get this far,” said parent and coach Philip Bramsen. “All students contributed significantly through our team meetings, collaborative problem solving, camaraderie, and their own example of diligence and commitment. Many of our mathletes have made significant progress since we started, and that is by far the most rewarding part of math team.”

Mathematics holds a special place in the classical education at Highlands Latin School. Our curriculum emphasizes memorization and repeated practice in the lower grades, ensuring students master fundamental arithmetic. By overlearning basic skills in K-6, students build the foundation needed for success in high school math and beyond.

Best of luck to our HLS Math Team at State!
