HLS Competes at Science Olympiad Regionals—Three Teams Medal!

Coach Hernandez, Ashray Neotia, & Caleb Sewell

This past Saturday, Highlands Latin School’s Science Olympiad team competed in the Louisville Regional Science Olympiad at duPont Manual High School, showcasing their dedication to science, problem-solving, and engineering!

In the Middle School (Division B) competition, Eben Sheffler and Greta Gibson took 1st place in Scrambler, an event that challenges students to design and build a device capable of safely transporting an egg using mechanical energy. In the High School (Division C) competition, Ashray Neotia and Caleb Sewell earned 1st place in Electric Vehicle, where teams construct and fine-tune a battery-powered car to travel a precise distance. Additionally, Haley Matheis, Grace Matheis, and Ada Stonecipher took 2nd place in Codebusters, a competition focused on cryptography and decoding ciphers under time constraints.

Every student’s hard work and commitment to science paid off, and we’re proud of all who participated. After competing at regionals, HLS students now have the opportunity to advance to the Kentucky State Science Olympiad on April 6 at the University of Kentucky. Congratulations to our Highlanders for an outstanding performance!
