This past Saturday, Highlands Latin School students competed at the Kentucky State Science Olympiad Tournament at the University of Kentucky, continuing their impressive run through this year’s competition season.
In the High School (Division C) Electric Vehicle event, Caleb Sewell (Grade 10) and Ashray Neotia (Grade 11) placed 3rd in the state, with a vehicle so precisely tuned that it traveled 10 meters and stopped within one centimeter of the target in just seven seconds. Their design included a 3D-printed chassis, Arduino coding, and refined calibration down to the centimeter.
In the Middle School (Division B) Scrambler event, Greta Gibson and Eben Sheffler took 4th place, capping off a season of careful testing and calibration. Their vehicle showed remarkable accuracy throughout the season—an impressive feat of engineering for two 8th graders.
Haley Matheis, Grace Matheis, and Ada Stonecipher also competed in the High School Codebusters event at state, demonstrating strong teamwork and dedication throughout the competition season.
Congratulations to all our Highlanders for their outstanding performance at State!
