You may have noticed our garden filling out. This is in no small part due to the horticultural talents of Michael Diaz. He has single handedly taken it from an idea to a beautiful garden with a variety of vegetables to be enjoyed by everyone at HLS. Michael will be moving to Florida this summer […]
Introducing the “First Fruits” from the HLS Garden ….you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket… Deuteronomy 26:2

In a tribute to our Kentucky heritage, we served Hot Browns, Citrus Salad, and “Run for the Roses” Cupcakes. Hot Browns were created by the head chef of the Brown Hotel here in Louisville. Another one of our meatless selections at HLS, is this simple refried beans and rice meal. We’ve taken vegetarian refried beans and added tomatoes, seasonings and cheese to compliment the spanish rice. Sour cream and tortilla chips are available as a garnish. Complete with fruit and a treat, this lunch can’t be beat!
No lunch room is complete without a chicken pot pie on the menu. Here at HLS we’ve included the essentials; chicken, fresh chicken stock, celery, carrots, peas and onions. Served with our fresh baked schoolhouse rolls, fresh fruit and brownie. Everybody deserves a little comfort food now and then.
Tortilla Soup…muy bien! Our soup has a variety of all-natural flavors including home-made chicken stock, chicken, corn tortillas, black beans, corn, onions, diced tomatoes, garlic and a hint of jalapenos. Toppings available are cheese, sour cream, and cilantro. And to round out the meal, we offered a lemon cake with lemon cream cheese icing.
