R11-12 Summer Latin Review
Success in a cumulative subject, like Latin or math, requires constant review. This summer is a great time to review the vocabulary, forms, and grammar that you have learned over the last few years.
Vocabulary
Being familiar with the Henle vocabulary is a one of the most important things you can do to get ready for your Latin class next year. You may find a list of Henle II’s vocabulary in the “Classified Word List” on pages 551-584 and Henle III’s on pages 359-375 or by clicking the links below.
Forms
You have learned almost all Latin forms at this point: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, and many verbals. Attached below are some blank form drills and synopsis sheets that are helpful in reviewing these forms. An old Fourth Form book will have models of all these forms in the back (Grammar Forms pp. 102-127), as will the Henle Grammar Book (on pages 5-81). A digital version is also available in link below. Even doing one synopsis and declining a few nouns or pronouns a week would make a difference.
Grammar
You have already tackled much of Latin syntax in your earlier Latin courses, and now you will be putting those rules to work as you translate more complex writing. Review the rules for cases and subordinate clauses in Henle’s Grammar (pages 84-235). See also the Review Plan link below for a detailed grammar review plan.
